A major oversight occurred during the ongoing Class 10 board examinations conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).

On the first day of the exams at Sardar Patel School in Bapunagar, a student was mistakenly assigned the seat of an absent candidate and unknowingly wrote the test under an incorrect roll number. This lapse resulted from negligence on the part of the block invigilator, who also misrecorded the absentee’s details in official documentation.

In board examinations, each classroom is allocated a fixed number of candidates, with answer booklets, question papers, and identification stickers distributed accordingly. It is the duty of block invigilators to ensure that every student occupies their designated seat and accurately enters their information.

Due to this blunder, the answers written by the student were mistakenly logged under the absentee’s roll number. The mix-up was detected later, prompting the zonal officer to alert the District Education Officer (DEO). The DEO immediately instructed school authorities to rectify the situation.

A formal report has been submitted to the education board to ensure the affected student’s results are not jeopardized. Authorities are working to implement measures that prevent such errors from recurring in future examinations.
