Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council has initiated the recruitment process for 11,508 teachers in urban schools, opening a major opportunity for teaching aspirants after more than three decades. The vacancy details have been uploaded to the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) portal, with the formal recruitment notification expected after verification.
The move is significant as no direct recruitment of teachers for urban schools run by the council has taken place since 1992. The long gap has contributed to a growing number of vacancies and affected teaching arrangements in several schools.
Rural teacher vacancies to follow
Officials said the current requisition covers vacancies in urban schools, while work is continuing to compile and upload details of vacant posts in rural schools. The rural recruitment is expected to follow once the vacancy data is finalised.
The larger recruitment exercise is aimed at addressing the shortage of teachers across Uttar Pradesh and strengthening staffing in government schools.
New selection process announced
The UPESSC has introduced a new selection procedure for the recruitment. Candidates will have to appear for a written examination comprising 120 questions.
Each question will carry three marks, while one mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. The detailed syllabus for the examination is expected to be released soon.
After verifying the vacancy details submitted by the Basic Education Council, the commission is expected to issue the formal notification and invite applications.
The recruitment drive is likely to attract a large number of teaching aspirants across the State, particularly candidates who have been waiting for fresh government school recruitment opportunities.
