Mangaluru, 12 May 2025: International Nurses Day 2025 was celebrated with great fervour and respect at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, honouring the invaluable contributions of nurses to the healthcare system. The event, held on 12 May, marked a significant tribute to Florence Nightingale and the selfless service of nurses across generations.
Inaugural ceremony and tributes
The celebration commenced with an invocation by Mr. Muhammed Sabith P, Deputy Hospital Operation Officer, followed by a warm welcome address by Ms. Femie Sherline Dsouza, Nursing Officer. The ceremonial segment included lighting of the lamp, floral tributes to Florence Nightingale, and an oath-taking ceremony led by Ms. Mitva, Nursing Officer.
Mrs. Noothan Lasrado, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, reflected on the profound significance of the day and highlighted the irreplaceable role of nurses in healthcare delivery. A joyous cake-cutting ceremony added a celebratory note to the event.
Dignitaries applaud nurses’ service
The programme was graced by several esteemed guests. Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), delivered the Chief Guest address. He shared personal experiences from his early medical career, highlighting the life lessons he learned from nurses and lauding their compassion and commitment.
Dr. M. A. Wani, Senior Consultant, Yenepoya Group of Hospitals, serving as Guest of Honour, stressed the need to strengthen the nursing workforce for better patient outcomes and systemic efficiency.
Dr. M. S. Moosabba, Principal of Yenepoya Medical College, appreciated the unwavering dedication of the nursing fraternity. Ms. Bhanumathi, Nursing Superintendent of Jana Priya Multispeciality Hospital, spoke on the critical role of nurses in both hospital and community settings, acknowledging their resilience in challenging scenarios.
Academic insights and celebrations
Educational leaders also contributed to the occasion. Dr. Leena K C, Principal of Yenepoya Nursing College, focused on nurturing clinical competence in nursing students and guiding them towards their professional aspirations. Dr. Prathibha, from Zulekha College of Nursing, shared valuable perspectives on nursing education and clinical practice.

In his presidential address, Dr. Habib Rahaman A. A., Medical Superintendent, spoke movingly about the vital presence of nurses “from a child’s first cry to the final moments of life.”
The vote of thanks was presented by Mrs. K. M. Sathya Devi, Nursing Superintendent, who extended heartfelt appreciation to all dignitaries, staff, and organisers. The programme concluded with high tea, symbolising unity and appreciation.
The event was attended by all Heads of Departments, Assistant Medical Superintendent, Deputy Manager, Hospital Operations Officer, Hospital Administration Team, Quality and HR teams, making it a truly collaborative and memorable celebration.
