Renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan recently took to social media to share a video capturing his journey through a tunnel on Mumbai’s newly inaugurated Coastal Road, which connects Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Bachchan expressed admiration for the infrastructure, highlighting its significant role in reducing travel time between the two destinations. The Coastal Road, stretching over 10.8 kilometers, features a two-kilometer-long tunnel segment linking Priyadarshini Park and Marine Drive.

The first phase of this ambitious project was officially inaugurated on March 11, with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar in attendance. Initiated on October 13, 2018, the project is projected to cost around ₹12,721 crore.

In his social media post, Bachchan shared his experience of traversing through the tunnel, starting from Haji Ali and concluding midway at Marine Drive. The video quickly garnered over 50,000 views, sparking various reactions from users.

Several users expressed appreciation for the modern infrastructure of Mumbai’s roadways, thanking Bachchan for sharing his experience. Some also credited the Maharashtra Government and Nitin Gadkari for the project’s realization, while others suggested Bachchan to experience the Atal Tunnel.

Previously, the journey from Worli to Marine Drive during peak hours would take 40-50 minutes. However, with the introduction of the Coastal Road, this duration has been significantly reduced to under 10 minutes for the nearly 10-kilometer stretch.

Authorities have imposed speed limits for vehicles using the road, with a maximum of 80 kilometers per hour on straight sections, reducing to 60 kmph within the tunnel and at turning points and entry/exit points, where the speed limit is set at 40 kmph.

Moreover, plans are underway for the development of a 320-acre world-class Central Park alongside the road, named ‘Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road’, as announced by Mr. Shinde earlier this month.
