Mumbai: The Maharashtra Cyber Department has arrested an individual in connection with the cyber harassment of Akshay Kumar’s minor daughter, following a complaint about inappropriate online behaviour during a gaming interaction.

Arrest confirmed during awareness session

The development was revealed by Additional Director General of Police Yashasvi Yadav during a cyber awareness session held at RD National College in Mumbai on April 24.

According to officials, the accused allegedly initiated contact with the actor’s 13-year-old daughter while she was playing an online game and later made inappropriate demands, including asking for explicit photographs.

Incident came to light through parental reporting

The case dates back to 2025, when Akshay Kumar publicly shared the incident during a cyber awareness programme. He stated that his daughter immediately informed her parents after sensing something was wrong.

The actor and his wife, Twinkle Khanna, subsequently reported the matter to authorities, prompting an investigation by the Maharashtra Cyber Department.

Nature of the harassment

Officials said the accused initially engaged in casual conversation before asking personal questions such as location and gender. Upon learning that the user was a minor girl, the individual allegedly escalated the interaction by requesting inappropriate images.

The teenager exited the game and informed her family, preventing further escalation.

Ongoing investigation

While authorities have confirmed the arrest, further details about the accused have not been disclosed. Officials indicated that the investigation is ongoing and additional legal action may follow based on findings.

Cyber harassment, particularly involving minors, is treated as a serious offence under Indian law, with strict penalties.

Police urge vigilance online

During the session, Yashasvi Yadav urged parents and children to remain cautious while interacting online, especially on gaming and social platforms.

He emphasised the importance of awareness, timely reporting, and monitoring digital activity to prevent such incidents.

Akshay Kumar’s earlier warning

Speaking earlier about the incident, Akshay Kumar had highlighted the risks children face online, noting that such interactions could lead to serious consequences, including extortion and psychological harm.

He had urged parents to stay informed about the platforms their children use and to encourage open communication about online experiences.

Conclusion

The arrest in the case underscores the growing focus on cyber safety and the need for vigilance in digital spaces. Authorities continue to stress that prompt reporting and awareness remain key to protecting minors from online threats.
