Veteran actor Suniel Shetty recently confirmed that his daughter, Athiya Shetty, has chosen to step back from her acting career after appearing in just three films. In a heartfelt conversation with Zoom, Suniel shared that Athiya is now focusing on what he calls the “most beautiful role of her life” — being a mother.
“She told me, ‘Baba, I don’t want to continue,’ and simply walked away,” Suniel revealed. “And I truly admire her for having that clarity. She had offers after Motichoor Chaknachoor, but she was content. She said, ‘I’m happy where I am.’”
Now, Athiya has taken on what her father calls her “life’s best project” — raising her daughter. “She’s playing the most meaningful role — that of a mother — and she’s completely loving it,” he added.
Athiya made her Bollywood debut in Hero (2015), opposite Sooraj Pancholi. She later appeared in Mubarakan (2017), followed by a cameo in Nawabzaade, and finally starred in Motichoor Chaknachoor (2019) with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Despite being a known face, she largely stayed away from the limelight.
Suniel, now a proud grandfather, also shared how gracefully Athiya has adapted to motherhood. “She’s taken to it effortlessly. I always saw her as my little girl, and I did wonder how she’d manage. But she’s been extraordinary — calm, composed, and incredibly mature,” he said.
Athiya and cricketer KL Rahul welcomed their baby girl Evaarah on March 24, revealing her name on Instagram on April 18.
