Mumbai: The anticipation for Border 2 continues to build as the makers unveiled a powerful new poster featuring the film’s lead stars — Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. The film, slated for a Republic Day week release on 23 January 2026, marks the return of one of Bollywood’s most iconic war franchises.
Along with the poster launch, the makers announced that the teaser will be revealed on 16 December to commemorate Vijay Diwas, the day India celebrates its decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Teaser to launch on Vijay Diwas
Sharing the new poster on social media, the makers wrote:
“Vijay Diwas ka josh, 1971 ki jeet ki yaad, aur saal ka sabse grand teaser launch — ek saath! #Border2 teaser out on 16th December at 1:30 PM IST. Releasing in cinemas on 23rd January 2026.”
The message sparked excitement among fans, with many expressing nostalgia for J.P. Dutta’s Border (1997), a film now regarded as one of India’s most impactful war dramas.
Ahan Shetty’s first look generates buzz
Earlier, the filmmakers had introduced Ahan Shetty’s first-look poster, which quickly went viral. The young actor, who plays a Navy officer in the film, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response.
Speaking to IANS, Ahan said,
“Seeing the love coming in for the Border 2 poster is truly humbling. Wearing the uniform carries a sense of responsibility, and I wanted the look to reflect the honesty and discipline of a Navy officer.”
The actor added that donning the uniform was more than just a costume choice — it represented honour, duty and emotional weight.
Star-studded cast promises high-impact wartime drama
With Sunny Deol returning to a patriotic avatar, Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh joining the ensemble, and Ahan Shetty representing the new generation, Border 2 is poised to be a major release of 2026. The film aims to recreate the emotional grit and battlefield heroism that defined the original movie, while introducing new characters and perspectives.
The teaser release on Vijay Diwas is expected to highlight the historical significance of the 1971 war and set the tone for the film’s narrative.
Backed by top banners and a strong creative team
Border 2 is produced under the banners of Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, in collaboration with J.P. Dutta’s J.P. Films. The film is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, with acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Singh directing the project.
Known for films like Kesari and Jatt & Juliet, Singh is expected to bring a contemporary cinematic scale to the war narrative while retaining the emotional core that audiences expect from the franchise.
A major Republic Day weekend release
As the countdown begins, expectations remain high for Border 2, which promises patriotism, high-octane drama and a tribute to the heroes of 1971. With a powerful star cast and a teaser launch timed with Vijay Diwas, the film is gearing up to be one of 2026’s biggest theatrical events.
