KOLAR: A District Congress meeting held in a private choultry on the outskirts of Kolar descended into chaos, marked by a physical altercation among party workers. The meeting was attended by prominent figures including district in-charge minister Narayanaswamy, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Nazeer Ahmed, Malur Legislator K Y Nanje Gowda, Kolar Legislator Kothur Manjunath, and MLC Anil Kumar.

The turmoil began when a faction of party workers pushed Lakshminarayana, the District Congress President, off the dais during a heated dispute. Tensions escalated as some workers accused the leaders on stage of failing to support the Congress candidate in the previous Parliament election, alleging their actions contributed to the candidate’s defeat. This led to a vocal confrontation between two groups of Congress workers, which quickly turned physical.

Efforts to restore order were made by Nazeer Ahmed, Nanje Gowda, and Narayanaswamy, who attempted to pacify the agitated workers. The police were called to the scene to intervene and calm the situation.

In a press meeting held the following day, Lakshminarayana, along with working president Urubagilu Srinivas, announced plans to convene a meeting of the district unit to discuss ongoing issues, particularly regarding protests against the Chief Minister related to an alleged MUDA case. They also planned to discuss a padayatra on October 2 to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. However, the intended meeting was ultimately dissolved before any discussions could take place, overshadowed by the earlier altercations.
