New Delhi: Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, celebrated for critically acclaimed works like Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, and Ugly, has recently found himself at the center of a controversy.
Director Vivek Agnihotri sparked the fire by labeling Kashyap a heavy drinker and claiming he offloaded his responsibilities onto Vikramaditya Motwane during the production of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, starring John Abraham and Bipasha Basu.
To clarify, Kashyap contributed as a dialogue writer along with Rohit Malhotra, while the screenplay was crafted by Motwane.
Responding to the allegations via Instagram, Kashyap slammed Agnihotri’s version of events. “This man lies shamelessly. The film was shot in London. I never stepped on set—I was in India the whole time. He rejected our script and wanted a ‘Lagaan-style football film.’ He got his own writer to create that terrible version. Neither I nor @motwayne were ever involved in the filming. Stop pretending, @vivekagnihotri,” Kashyap wrote.
Motwane supported his colleague by re-sharing the post.
Speaking to Digital Commentary, Agnihotri recounted his version, saying Kashyap’s drinking habits led to disorganization. “Anurag used to drink excessively. He had no sense of time. He brought in Motwane to ‘help,’ and slowly passed all work onto him,” Agnihotri claimed.
He further added that creative conflicts emerged due to differing visions. “It became difficult to deal with Anurag. Eventually, the producers had to intervene.”
Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal featured a star-studded cast including Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani, and was produced by Ronnie Screwvala under UTV Motion Pictures.
