Mumbai: Both Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe have received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making them suitable only for adult audiences.

Daayra receives adult certification

Daayra was passed by the CBFC on September 11 with an ‘A’ rating. The investigative thriller, directed by Meghna Gulzar, has a certified runtime of 143 minutes and 16 seconds, making it 2 hours, 23 minutes and 16 seconds long.

The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The adult certification also marks a significant milestone in Kareena’s career, as Daayra becomes her tenth film to receive an ‘A’ rating from the CBFC.

Her previous films to receive an adult certificate are Ajnabee (2001), Chameli (2003), Dev (2004), Omkara (2006), Kurbaan (2009), Heroine (2012), Udta Punjab (2016), Veere Di Wedding (2018) and The Buckingham Murders (2024).

The certification comes amid a noticeable run of Hindi films receiving adult ratings in 2026, including titles such as Dhurandhar The Revenge, Mirzapur, Cocktail 2, Batwara 1947, O’Romeo, Assi and Bandar.

Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe also gets an ‘A’ rating

Meanwhile, Vibe was also cleared by the CBFC on September 11 and received an ‘A’ certificate.

The comic caper has a certified runtime of 145 minutes and 55 seconds, or 2 hours, 25 minutes and 55 seconds.

Vibe has an ensemble cast led by Kunal Kemmu, who has also directed the film. Preity G Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Vanshika Dhir, Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, and Yashpal Sharma are also part of the cast.

For Preity G Zinta, Vibe is her second film following her return to the big screen. Her previous release was Batwara 1947, which arrived in cinemas last month and also received an ‘A’ certificate.

Adult rating for Vibe comes as a surprise

The ‘A’ certification for Vibe is particularly notable because the film has been positioned as a comic entertainer. An industry insider said the adult rating for Daayra is understandable given its mature theme, but suggested that the certification for Vibe could surprise audiences.

According to the insider, Vibe appears to be a fun entertainer that could appeal to a wider audience, including younger viewers. The film was also compared with Kunal Kemmu’s previous directorial venture, Madgaon Express, which received a U/A certificate from the CBFC in 2024.

The contrast between the two films has therefore made Vibe’s ‘A’ certificate an unexpected development.

Both films release on September 18

With the certification process now complete, both Daayra and Vibe are scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 18.

The two releases will bring very different genres to theatres, with Meghna Gulzar’s investigative thriller targeting mature audiences and Kunal Kemmu’s comic caper also being restricted to viewers aged 18 and above because of its adult certification.

For Kareena Kapoor Khan, Daayra adds another ‘A’-certified title to her filmography, taking the tally to ten. For Vibe, the adult certification adds an element of curiosity ahead of its theatrical release.
