Mumbai: The box office run of Dacoit: A Love Story witnessed a slowdown on its fourth day, as the film recorded a dip in collections after a steady opening weekend.
Starring Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap, the romantic action drama has managed to cross ₹22 crore net at the domestic box office within four days of release.
Day 4 collection sees expected drop
According to trade estimates, the film collected around ₹2.70 crore net in India on its first Monday, taking its total domestic earnings to approximately ₹22.50 crore.
The dip was expected, considering the transition from a weekend to a weekday. The film had maintained a steady performance over its opening weekend, with collections remaining largely stable.
Dacoit opened with ₹6.55 crore on Friday, followed by ₹6.85 crore on Saturday and ₹6.40 crore on Sunday, showing consistency during its initial theatrical run.
Stronger performance in Telugu markets
Despite being shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, the film appears to be performing better in the Telugu-speaking regions. Industry observers note that regional appeal and star power have contributed to higher occupancy in Telugu circuits compared to the Hindi belt.
The film’s current trajectory indicates that it may soon surpass the lifetime domestic collection of Sesh’s earlier film HIT: The Second Case, which earned ₹25.92 crore. However, it still has a significant gap to cover to match the ₹41.03 crore domestic total of Major.
Film details and reception
Directed by Shaneil Deo in his directorial debut, Dacoit: A Love Story was co-written by Adivi Sesh. The film has been produced by Supriya Yarlagadda under the banner of Annapurna Studios.
The film also features actors like Prakash Raj, Sunil, Zayn Marie Khan and Atul Kulkarni in supporting roles.
Upon release, the film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for performances and visuals, while some reviews pointed out issues with pacing and narrative depth.
Industry reactions and word of mouth
Actor Nani praised the film on social media, calling it a “blockbuster with all heart” and lauding the performances of Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. He also commended the film’s writing, direction and production quality.
Positive word of mouth from sections of the audience has helped sustain footfall over the weekend, though weekday performance will be crucial in determining the film’s long-term success.
Conclusion
While Dacoit: A Love Story has crossed a respectable ₹22 crore mark in its first four days, its box office journey now depends on how well it holds during the weekdays. If it maintains steady collections, the film could emerge as a moderate success, especially in the Telugu market.
