Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who recently made headlines due to his involvement in the high-profile murder case of his fan, Renukaswamy, is back in the spotlight. On January 21, 2025, Darshan filed a petition in the Bangalore Court seeking the return of Rs 37.40 lakhs that were confiscated from his residence during the investigation, along with an additional Rs 3 lakh allegedly given to him by his wife, Vijaylakshmi. In his petition, Darshan emphasized his need for the money to support daily necessities and basic sustenance.
The funds were reportedly seized as part of an investigation into the murder of Renukaswamy, who was allegedly killed after sending inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, an associate of Darshan. Renukaswamy’s body was discovered near a stormwater drain in Bengaluru on June 9, 2024. The seized money was believed to have been kept at Darshan’s home to destroy evidence related to the case.
Despite being granted bail on December 13, 2024, the case remains ongoing. The investigating officer is expected to object to Darshan’s petition, as the case is still under investigation. Darshan’s bail was granted after the Karnataka High Court reviewed the evidence presented. However, the Karnataka government has appealed the decision, and the Supreme Court is expected to review the case.
All accused individuals, including Darshan, are scheduled to appear in court again on February 15, 2025.
