Actor Deepika Padukone has voiced concern over Mumbai’s deteriorating air quality, urging authorities to take urgent action as the city faces rising pollution and intense heatwave conditions.

The actress, who welcomed her daughter Dua in September 2024 and has largely stayed away from the spotlight since then, took to Instagram to highlight the growing environmental concern. Tagging the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the BMC Public Health Department, she called for immediate steps to improve the city’s air quality.

Sharing an image of Mumbai’s smog-covered skyline, Padukone wrote: “This city (& its children) are choking! How is this okay? @bmc @mybmchealth help!” The post quickly drew attention on social media, with many users echoing concerns about pollution levels in the financial capital.

Rising pollution concerns in Mumbai

Mumbai has recently witnessed rising pollution levels, prompting authorities to take action against construction sites believed to be contributing to poor air quality. The BMC had earlier issued notices to several sites and temporarily halted some construction activities.

These measures reportedly led to a temporary improvement in the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI), though concerns remain among residents and environmental groups about long-term solutions to the problem.

Padukone’s message has reignited public discussion on the need for stronger pollution control measures and sustainable urban planning in the city.

Actress skips Paris trip amid Middle East tensions

The actor also made headlines recently after cancelling a planned trip to Paris due to flight disruptions linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to reports, Padukone had finalised her outfits and begun fittings for the event, but the cancellation of multiple flights and rising geopolitical tensions prompted her to reconsider travelling at the time.

Upcoming films: ‘King’ and Atlee’s next project

On the professional front, Padukone will next be seen in the film King, where she reunites with Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Siddharth Anand. The film also features Suhana Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Saurabh Shukla, Raghav Juyal and Abhay Verma. The movie is scheduled to release on December 24, 2026.
