Chandigarh: Diljit Dosanjh has firmly dismissed calls for him to enter politics and become a new political face of Punjab, stating that he is happy focusing on his entertainment career.
The globally popular Punjabi singer and actor reportedly turned down a public appeal made by a group of civil society activists who wanted him to take on a leadership role in Punjab politics.
Diljit responded politely but clearly, saying politics is not something he intends to pursue.
Civil society group urged Diljit to enter politics
According to reports, a group led by retired bureaucrat S. S. Boparai appealed to Diljit Dosanjh to step into Punjab’s political landscape.
The discussion reportedly gained attention after a Punjabi Tribune article carried the headline, “Can Diljit Dosanjh be the new political face of Punjab.”
The appeal came amid growing conversations around influential public personalities entering politics in Punjab.
However, Diljit quickly rejected the suggestion through a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Responding to the speculation, the singer said he would “never” enter politics and added that his primary responsibility is to entertain people through music and films.
He also stated that he is completely satisfied with his current profession.
Diljit continues to represent Punjab globally
Over the years, Diljit Dosanjh has emerged as one of the most recognised Indian artists internationally.
Through his global concerts and tours, the singer has frequently spoken proudly about Punjab, Punjabi culture and the Punjabi community across the world.
His performances abroad often attract massive crowds, with fans from multiple countries attending his concerts.
Recently, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Diljit reflected on the historical struggles faced by Punjabis in Canada.
He spoke about how Punjabi immigrants were denied entry into Canada in 1914 and contrasted that history with the overwhelming response to his concerts there today.
“That stadium is just two kilometres away from that port. That’s a big thing for us — 55,000 people in the stadium. They didn’t allow us to come, but now we’re here,” Diljit said during the interview.
His remarks received appreciation from fans for highlighting Punjabi history and identity on an international platform.
Busy schedule in films and music
Apart from his music career, Diljit continues to remain active in films.
He was recently seen in Border 2 alongside Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty.
The sequel to the 1997 war drama reportedly performed well at the box office after its theatrical release earlier this year.
Diljit will next appear in Main Vaapas Aaunga directed by Imtiaz Ali.
The film also stars Vedang Raina and Sharvari.
The upcoming period romance drama marks Diljit’s second collaboration with Imtiaz Ali after their successful Netflix project Amar Singh Chamkila.
The film is scheduled for release on June 12, 2026.
Fans react to Diljit’s stand
Diljit’s decision to stay away from politics has sparked discussions among fans and social media users.
While many supporters praised him for remaining focused on entertainment and music, others noted that his influence and connection with Punjabi youth continue to make him an important cultural figure in the state.
For now, Diljit appears committed to his global music tours, films and representing Punjabi culture worldwide rather than entering public office.
