Mumbai: After the massive success of Stree 2, actress Shraddha Kapoor is set to return to the big screen with Eetha, a biographical drama directed by Laxman Utekar. The film is based on the extraordinary life of legendary Tamasha artist Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar and recently generated buzz after its first teaser was screened exclusively in theatres alongside Cocktail 2.

The makers are yet to officially release the teaser online, but the glimpse has already sparked curiosity among moviegoers. Here are five key things to know about Eetha before its release.

What Is Eetha About?

Eetha is a Hindi-language biographical drama that chronicles the life and struggles of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated Tamasha performers.

Set primarily in and around Maharashtra’s cultural landscape, the film explores Vithabai’s journey from a family deeply rooted in folk arts to becoming one of the most influential figures in the Tamasha tradition. The project marks Laxman Utekar’s first directorial venture after the success of Chhaava.

The film completed principal photography in May and is currently in post-production.

The Inspiring Story Behind The Film

Known as the “Tamasha Samradini” (Empress of Tamasha), Vithabai belonged to the renowned Bhau-Bapu Mang Narayangaonkar family, which played a major role in preserving and popularising the folk art form.

Raised in an artistic environment surrounded by Lavani, Gavlan and other traditional performance styles, she stepped up to support her family during difficult times and carried forward their artistic legacy.

One of the most remarkable incidents from her life, highlighted in the teaser, involves her continuing a stage performance despite being heavily pregnant. According to accounts associated with her life, she went backstage to deliver her baby and returned to the stage shortly afterwards, demonstrating her extraordinary dedication to her craft.

Vithabai received national recognition, including prestigious awards during her career. Despite her fame, she reportedly faced financial difficulties later in life.

The film features an impressive ensemble cast led by Shraddha Kapoor in the role of Vithabai Narayangaonkar.

The supporting cast includes:

The official teaser, trailer and promotional campaign are expected to begin in July as the makers prepare for the film’s release.

To maintain authenticity, the filmmakers chose several locations across Maharashtra that are closely linked to the story and cultural backdrop of Vithabai’s life.

The film was shot in:

  • Madh Island
  • Pune
  • Nashik (near Aundhewadi)
  • Solapur

These locations are expected to help recreate the world of Maharashtra’s traditional Tamasha culture on screen.
