Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s romantic thriller Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat (EDKD) has turned out to be the dark horse of the Diwali box office. Despite clashing with Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma — a film from the popular horror-comedy universe — EDKD has managed to carve its own space and win over audiences across India and abroad.
Released on comparatively fewer screens, the film has surprised trade analysts by steadily inching closer to the ₹70 crore mark in India, while its worldwide gross has already crossed ₹100 crore.
Box office journey: A steady climb
After opening to a strong ₹9 crore on its first day, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat maintained a solid trend throughout its first week. The film collected ₹55.15 crore in Week 1, despite facing stiff competition from other festive releases.
During the second week, it continued its momentum with encouraging weekend numbers. The film collected ₹2.35 crore on the second Friday, followed by ₹3.15 crore on Saturday and ₹3.75 crore on Sunday.

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, EDKD’s total India collection now stands at ₹68.05 crore, marking it as a clear box office success.

Critics divided, audiences impressed
While the film has done exceptionally well commercially, it has also drawn criticism for its portrayal of toxic relationships. Critics have pointed out that the storyline, while gripping, romanticises obsession and manipulation.
However, audiences appear to have connected with the intense performances and powerful music, helping the film sustain strong footfalls in its second week.
Trade analysts noted that Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has achieved the rare feat of thriving amid competition, proving that strong word-of-mouth can outweigh limited screen count and modest marketing.
A surprise success story
The success of EDKD reaffirms Harshvardhan Rane’s appeal in intense romantic dramas and marks another milestone for Sonam Bajwa, who continues to impress audiences across regional and Hindi cinema.
With the film showing steady weekday trends, it is expected to cross the ₹70 crore mark in India by the weekend, cementing its status as one of the biggest surprise hits of 2025.
