‘Gadar 2’, 3rd highest grossing film, surpasses ‘K.G.F. 2’

The recently released Sunny Deol-starrer film ‘Gadar 2’ is causing a rampage as it emerges as the third highest grossing Hindi film of all time after crossing the lifetime collections of the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’ and more recently the Yash-starrer ‘K.G.F.: Chapter 2’.

Mumbai: The recently released movie ‘Gadar 2’, featuring Sunny Deol in the lead role, is creating a sensation by becoming the third highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. It has surpassed the lifetime earnings of two other blockbuster films, ‘Dangal’ starring Aamir Khan and the more recent ‘K.G.F.: Chapter 2’ starring Yash.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his social media platform on Sunday to share the latest collection figures for ‘Gadar 2’. The film has amassed a total of Rs. 439.95 crores in India up to this point.

He expressed, “Surpassing ‘KGF 2’, the next target is ‘Baahubali 2’… After exceeding the lifetime earnings of ‘Dangal’, ‘Gadar 2’ has now outperformed ‘KGF 2’ in the Hindi market… ‘Gadar 2’ has now become the third highest-grossing Hindi film in India… The film continues to break box office records, especially in mass sectors… [Week 3] Friday: 7.10 crores, Saturday: 13.75 crores. Total: ₹ 439.95 crores. Indian box office business.”

Sunny Khanna, CEO of Whitelion Entertainment and a film exhibitor and distributor, previously informed IANS, “During weekends, the film is seeing an average occupancy rate of 75-80 percent in theatres. This movie has rejuvenated theatres that were on the verge of closing down. Even smaller multiplexes, which previously had an occupancy rate of 8 percent, are now experiencing a 60 percent occupancy rate solely due to ‘Gadar 2’.”

He revealed that the film’s box office collections reached their peak on Independence Day. He also noted the remarkable fact that on the second Saturday, ‘Gadar 2’ saw only a slight decline of 30 percent in its earnings. In comparison, even a major hit like ‘Pathaan’, which holds the record for the highest-grossing Hindi film, had a significant drop on its second Saturday. However, ‘Gadar 2’ appears to be unstoppable at this point.

He further highlighted the positive atmosphere for movies in theaters, noting that diverse films from various regions are performing well. Among these are superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, ‘Gadar 2’, Chiranjeevi’s ‘Bhola Shankar’, and Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’, all of which are achieving strong results at the box office.

Sunny concluded by stating that the industry is experiencing a positive momentum, especially in the exhibitor sector, which has faced challenges since the onset of the pandemic. With the success of films like ‘Gadar 2’, ‘Jailer’, and ‘OMG 2’, the outlook is optimistic.
