New Delhi: Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited action thriller Ground Zero finally made its theatrical debut on Friday, April 25. According to Sacnilk, the film managed to pull in Rs 1 crore on its opening day.

The Hindi-language movie recorded an overall occupancy rate of 8.63% on day one. Digging deeper, morning shows drew a modest 4.71%, afternoon screenings reached 8.25%, evening slots gathered 7.49%, while night shows saw the highest turnout at 14.06%.

Ground Zero tells the gripping story of real-life Border Security Force officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who was instrumental in the 2003 mission that led to the elimination of India’s most-wanted terrorist, Rana Tahir Nadeem, better known as Ghazi Baba.

Emraan Hashmi portrays Second-in-Command Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, while Sai Tamhankar steps into the role of his wife, Jaya Dubey. Zoya Hussain appears as Aadila, with Mukesh Tiwari, Deepak Parmesh, and Lalit Prabhakar featuring in prominent supporting roles.

Prior to its official release, Ground Zero made history by hosting a red carpet premiere in Srinagar — the first of its kind in 38 years. The region had not seen such an event since cinema halls were shut down during the unrest in 1989.

Speaking to NDTV at the landmark screening, Hashmi reflected on the occasion, stating, “This marks a small yet powerful step toward changing the lingering perceptions born out of the 1989 tensions.”

Directed by Tejas Prabha and Vijay Deoskar, the film is produced under Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s banner, Excel Entertainment.
