Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 has emerged as a runaway success, securing its spot among this year’s top-grossing films. The star-studded comedy-thriller, released on June 6, made an impressive debut and maintained consistent momentum at the ticket counters.
According to producers, within 25 days, the movie amassed ₹300 crore globally and ₹200 crore net in India. This feat pushed it past Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunam (₹255 crore) and Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan (₹265.5 crore). Earlier, it had already overtaken Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 to claim the second position among the highest-earning Bollywood releases of 2025.
Although Chhaava starring Vicky Kaushal still dominates the charts with ₹807.88 crore worldwide and ₹601.54 crore domestically, Housefull 5 has firmly established itself as the year’s second-biggest hit.
The fifth instalment in Sajid Nadiadwala’s popular franchise features an extensive ensemble cast: Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Nana Patekar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Johnny Lever, and Jackie Shroff.
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the story unfolds on a cruise liner where a billionaire (Ranjeet) is murdered shortly after announcing he will bequeath his wealth to “Jolly.” Chaos erupts as three Jollys—played by Akshay, Riteish, and Abhishek—all claim to be the rightful heir, setting off a comedic whodunnit.
Audiences praised the film’s humour and scale, though some criticised its shallow portrayal of female characters.
