India has lost one of its most treasured musical voices as legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away in Mumbai at the age of 92.

Doctors at Breach Candy Hospital confirmed that she died on Sunday after being admitted with chest infection, exhaustion and declining health. She was under treatment in the intensive care unit and reportedly succumbed to multi-organ failure.

Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed the news and said the last rites would be held at Shivaji Park.
