Mumbai: Marking the occasion of International Women’s Day, JioStar Network has announced a special programming initiative across its Hindi movie channels, featuring 50 films centred on strong female protagonists. The curated showcase will highlight stories led by women across genres and generations, celebrating their strength, resilience and impact in cinema.
The special programming will be headlined by the World Television Premiere of Maa, starring Kajol, which will air on Star Gold on March 7 at 8 PM. The film will also have a repeat telecast on March 8 at 12 PM, coinciding with International Women’s Day celebrations.
According to the network, the initiative aims to spotlight powerful narratives driven by women and bring together a diverse selection of films that highlight female characters in different roles and circumstances.
Women-led films across multiple genres
As part of the special line-up, the network has curated a collection of 50 films that revolve around female protagonists. These films span multiple genres, including biographical dramas, action thrillers, family dramas and social stories.
Among the films included in the showcase are Mary Kom and Shabaash Mithu, both biographical dramas based on the lives of celebrated Indian sportswomen. The line-up also features action-oriented films such as Mardaani 2 and Yashoda, which showcase women in powerful and assertive roles.
The programming slate further includes critically acclaimed and popular titles like Mimi, Damini, Neerja and Stree 2, each representing a different narrative style and thematic focus.
By bringing together these films, the network aims to present a varied cinematic experience that reflects the many facets of women’s lives and journeys.
Programming across nine Hindi movie channels
The special Women’s Day programming will be broadcast across nine Hindi movie channels within the JioStar Network. These include Star Gold, Star Gold 2, Star Gold Romance, Star Gold Thrills, Star Utsav Movies, Star Gold Select, Colors Cineplex, Colors Cineplex Bollywood and Colors Cineplex Superhits.
The films will be aired throughout the day across these channels, offering viewers an opportunity to watch stories that celebrate women’s achievements, struggles and triumphs.
According to the network, the initiative is designed to create a collective viewing experience for audiences across the country, encouraging families to come together and engage with narratives that highlight women’s perspectives and contributions.
Kajol’s Maa takes centre stage
