Jyotika Opens Up: Why Bollywood Offers Dried Up After Debut Film

Actress Jyotika has revealed why she did not get enough opportunities from Bollywood. The actress who made her name in the south film industry is currently enjoying the success of her recent psychological-horror movie ‘Shaitan’ which is her comeback movie in Bollywood.

In an interview with News 18, she revealed that she had not received any offers from Bollywood filmmakers in the past 27 years. The actress made her acting debut with a Bollywood film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, opposite Akshay Khanna.

She will be starring alongside Rajkummar Rao in his upcoming film Srikanth which will be releasing on May 10.

She said that she never received an offer from Hindi films. “I ventured into South Indian cinema 27 years ago and have exclusively worked in that industry since then. Unfortunately, my first Hindi film Doli Sajake Rakhna didn’t fare well in theaters. The Bollywood scene is very formulaic; your debut film needs to succeed to attract more offers. At the beginning of my career, many actress were working with big production houses, and my film was produced by one as well. However, it didn’t perform as expected. Thankfully, I had also signed a South Indian film and diverted my focus from Bollywood.”

“In Bollywood, there was a misconception that I was exclusively interested in South Indian cinema. Despite this, I am grateful for my journey and the wonderful work I’ve done there. It’s not that I avoided Hindi films; I simply wasn’t offered any scripts over the years,” she said.

Jyotika’s next movie “Srikanth” is scheduled for release on May 10. The film features Rajkummar Rao, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar in significant roles.
