In a significant achievement, Kalki 2898 AD has surpassed Jawan to become the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all time at the domestic box office. The Prabhas-starring science-fiction drama, directed by Nag Ashwin, has amassed Rs 640.6 crore net within 40 days, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which earned Rs 640.25 crore net in its entire run in India.

Despite its success, Kalki 2898 AD has not been able to surpass Baahubali 2, which remains the highest-grossing film in Prabhas’s career with a lifetime net total of Rs 1030.42 crore. It also did not exceed the overall collections of KGF 2 and RRR.

Kalki 2898 AD continues to perform well in theatres, even in its sixth week. However, it is unlikely to set any new records moving forward. The film has seen a more substantial performance from its Hindi version, grossing around Rs 350 crore gross and Rs 290 crore net, while the Telugu version has earned approximately Rs 335 crore gross. The Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions have collectively grossed around Rs 75 crore.
The film’s theatrical run is expected to end soon, but it is anticipated to make a strong impact on OTT platforms. Reports suggest that Kalki 2898 AD may premiere on Prime Video starting August 23, although official confirmation from the makers has yet to be announced.
Featuring an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, Kalki 2898 AD has been widely appreciated for its grand storytelling and visual effects. The makers are also preparing to resume shooting for the sequel.
