A proud moment for Tamil cinema
In another post, Haasan added, “Extremely delighted to share that Amaran has been nominated for the Golden Peacock Award under the International Competition and will be the opening feature film in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India, Goa. A story of courage and sacrifice
Amaran is based on the real-life story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a decorated Indian Army officer who laid down his life during an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir. The film is adapted from India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by journalists Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which includes a dedicated chapter on Major Mukund.
The story follows Indhu, played by Sai Pallavi, as she receives the Ashoka Chakra award on behalf of her late husband, portrayed by Sivakarthikeyan. The narrative unfolds through her recollections of Mukund’s life, service, and sacrifice.
Stellar performances and success
The film also features Rahul Bose, Bhuvan Arora, Haethakshi V, Lallu, Anbu Thasan, Shreekumar, Shyamaprasad, and Geetha Kailasam, among others. Produced by Kamal Haasan, R. Mahendran, and Vivek Krishnani under the banners of Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India, Amaran received both critical acclaim and commercial success.
The movie emerged as the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and ranked among the top ten Indian films of the year.
Tamil cinema on the global stage
With its selection as the opening film in the Indian Panorama, Amaran continues to elevate Tamil cinema’s global recognition. The film’s inclusion in the IFFI lineup is expected to draw international attention to Indian biographical and patriotic storytelling.
The 56th International Film Festival of India will take place in Goa later this month, bringing together filmmakers and audiences from across the globe to celebrate cinematic excellence.
