Kangana Ranaut has come out in support of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after social media users criticised and body-shamed the actor for her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026.

Reacting to online trolling surrounding Aishwarya’s first Cannes look this year, Kangana strongly defended the actor and criticised the culture of judging women based on appearance and age.

Kangana says women do not owe anyone anything

Sharing Aishwarya’s Cannes appearance on social media, Kangana wrote that fashion and style are forms of self-expression and personal identity.

“She is not here to please you. She is glorious,” Kangana wrote while responding to trolls targeting Aishwarya’s appearance.

The actor also addressed criticism aimed at older women appearing on red carpets, saying audiences should become more accepting and respectful.

Her comments quickly gained attention online, with many users praising her for speaking against body-shaming and age-based criticism.

Aishwarya’s Cannes look sparks debate

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attended the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival wearing a sculpted blue gown designed by Amit Aggarwal.

The couture outfit, titled Luminara, was inspired by the concept of light, movement, and transformation.

While many fans appreciated the actor’s bold fashion choice and elegance, some social media users criticised her appearance and made offensive comments online.

Actress continues global Cannes presence

Aishwarya, who has represented L’Oréal Paris globally for over two decades, also appeared in additional Cannes events wearing a blush pink gown and a white pantsuit.

She was accompanied by her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan during the festival.

The debate around the actor’s appearance has once again highlighted conversations around body-shaming, ageing, and unrealistic beauty standards faced by women in the entertainment industry.
