New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut on Monday criticised the ongoing protests by members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) outside Parliament, saying demonstrators cannot “arm-twist” the government into deciding who should remain in the Union Cabinet. Her remarks came on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where the Opposition has sought discussions on the recent NEET paper leak controversy and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Protests intensified in the national capital as CJP leaders and supporters marched towards Parliament after several days of demonstrations, including hunger strikes at Jantar Mantar, over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination process and concerns raised by students.
Kangana backs government’s authority
Speaking to ANI after the first day of Parliament proceedings, Kangana Ranaut defended the government’s authority to choose its ministers and criticised attempts to pressure it through protests.
“You cannot arm-twist the government into deciding who to sack and who to keep. This arm-twisting is not good,” she said.
The BJP MP asserted that Parliament is the appropriate forum for raising issues and holding the government accountable, adding that public representatives have the opportunity to debate matters concerning the nation during the parliamentary session.
According to Kangana, the democratic process provides space for questions and criticism, but decisions regarding the composition of the Cabinet remain the prerogative of the elected government.
Suggests protesters enter politics
Kangana also urged those leading the protests to participate directly in the democratic process if they wished to influence government decisions.
She said individuals who feel strongly about governance should contest elections rather than attempt to pressure the government through demonstrations.
“It is the right of the government chosen by the people to decide how to run the government. If you feel so strongly, you should stand for election yourself,” she said.
Her comments come amid continued protests demanding accountability over the alleged examination irregularities and calls for reforms in the country’s entrance examination system.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced amid heightened political activity, with Opposition parties raising several issues, including the NEET controversy.
Outside Parliament, protesters continued demonstrations demanding action over the alleged paper leak and reforms to ensure transparency in competitive examinations.

Kangana’s political journey
Kangana Ranaut entered active politics ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after being nominated as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
She won the parliamentary election and has since participated in debates on a range of political and national issues as a first-time Member of Parliament.
Upcoming film projects
Apart from her political career, Kangana remains active in the film industry.
Last year, she directed, produced and starred in Emergency, portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Earlier this year, she appeared in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, a film based on the courage of doctors, nurses and hospital staff during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
The actor has also completed filming for Queen 2, reuniting with director Vikas Bahl for the sequel to the 2013 hit Queen. In addition, she will share screen space once again with R. Madhavan in the upcoming multilingual psychological thriller Circle.
