Mumbai: Actor Kartik Aaryan is set to collaborate once again with T-Series as the studio comes on board as co-producer for his upcoming film Captain India. The project will be directed by Shimit Amin and written and produced by Harman Baweja, marking a notable new partnership and the director’s long-awaited return to feature filmmaking.

According to industry sources, the production house decided to back the film after evaluating the script, the casting choice, and the director’s creative involvement. The recce for the film has reportedly been completed, and the makers are planning to begin principal photography in the second quarter of 2026. The film is expected to be shot across locations in India and Morocco.

Strong track record between actor and studio

Kartik Aaryan and T-Series share a successful working relationship, having previously collaborated on multiple commercially successful films. Their past ventures include Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, all of which performed well at the box office and strengthened the actor’s commercial standing.

Trade analysts note that the consistent box office performance of these collaborations has made the Kartik Aaryan–T-Series pairing one of the more bankable combinations in the Hindi film industry in recent years. Their reunion for Captain India is therefore being viewed as a strategically significant move.

The studio is expected to handle not just co-production responsibilities but also music and distribution support, which has historically played a key role in the success of their joint projects.

Shimit Amin returns after long gap

One of the biggest highlights of Captain India is the return of director Shimit Amin to the big screen after a gap of about 17 years. He is known for directing critically regarded films such as Ab Tak Chhappan, Chak De! India, and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

While Ab Tak Chhappan earned praise for its gritty treatment, Chak De! India, starring Shah Rukh Khan, became one of the most loved sports dramas in Hindi cinema. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, did not perform strongly at the box office initially but later achieved cult status among audiences.

Industry observers see Amin’s return with a mainstream star-led project as a significant creative development, especially given his reputation for grounded storytelling and character-driven narratives.

Project development journey

Interestingly, Captain India was originally announced in 2021 with Hansal Mehta attached as director at that stage. The project has since undergone creative restructuring, with Shimit Amin now taking charge of direction and the production structure expanding with T-Series joining as co-producer.

Sources indicate that the screenplay has been further developed and refined since its initial announcement. The current version is said to align more closely with Amin’s storytelling sensibilities while retaining the core premise envisioned by writer-producer Harman Baweja.

The makers are expected to finalise the supporting cast and technical crew in the coming months ahead of the scheduled shoot window.

Kartik Aaryan’s packed slate ahead

Apart from Captain India, Kartik Aaryan has multiple films lined up over the next two years. He is also working with director Anurag Basu on an untitled musical saga backed by T-Series, slated for release in the second half of 2026.

The actor is currently shooting for Naagzilla, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, known for the Fukrey franchise. In addition, he is attached to an upcoming project from filmmaker Kabir Khan, further strengthening his upcoming release pipeline.

With a mix of genres including thriller, musical drama, and commercial entertainers, the actor appears to be balancing mass-market appeal with varied storytelling formats.

Conclusion

With T-Series joining as co-producer, Captain India gains additional production weight and market backing. Combined with Kartik Aaryan’s box office pull and Shimit Amin’s respected directorial voice, the film is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched Hindi film projects scheduled to go on floors in 2026.
