Kichcha Sudeep, the renowned Kannada actor, has made the surprising decision to decline the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor, just hours after being announced as the winner. He was recognized for his role in the 2019 film Pailwaan. In a statement shared on X, the actor explained that he had made a personal commitment several years ago to stop accepting awards, a decision he intends to uphold.
In his message, Sudeep expressed his gratitude to the Government of Karnataka and the jury, acknowledging the honor. However, he clarified that his decision to refrain from accepting awards stemmed from personal reasons, emphasizing that many other deserving actors would appreciate the recognition more than he would. He also expressed his happiness in seeing another actor, who truly deserves the accolade, receive it.
Sudeep further stated, “My dedication to entertaining people has always been without the expectation of awards. The acknowledgment from the jury alone is enough to motivate me to continue striving for excellence.” He apologized to the jury and state government for any disappointment his decision might cause, and asked for understanding and support in his choice.
The Karnataka State Film Awards, which were delayed by five years due to the pandemic, also saw Anupama Gowda being named Best Actress. The state is yet to announce its awards for films released between 2020 and 2024.
