The Maharashtra excise department withdrew the authorization to serve alcohol at Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert in Pune’s Kothrud area on Sunday. This decision followed objections raised by several individuals, including BJP MLA Chandrakant Patil.
Confirming the revocation, C Rajput, the state excise commissioner, stated, “The permission to serve liquor during the event has been revoked.”
The concert, which was set to take place later in the evening at Kakade Farm in Kothrud, faced criticism from Patil, a newly elected MLA. He expressed concerns that the event contradicted the cultural values of the city and could cause logistical problems. “Such events do not align with the city’s traditions. They will disturb local residents and create traffic congestion,” Patil remarked. He further urged the police commissioner to cancel the event entirely.
Although the liquor permit was revoked, the concert is expected to go ahead as scheduled, with additional regulations in place to manage the event and mitigate disruptions.
