Kochi: Veteran playback singer MG Sreekumar has reunited with superstar Mohanlal for a devotional-themed song in the upcoming Malayalam film Athimanoharam. Titled Sundara Ravanan, the track marks the first single from the film and features lyrics by BK Harinarayanan and music composed by Jakes Bejoy.
The song brings back a familiar musical association between MG Sreekumar and Mohanlal, who have collaborated on several memorable tracks over the years, ranging from energetic numbers to soulful melodies.
The singer’s latest collaboration comes as Mohanlal and director Tharun Moorthy reunite with composer Jakes Bejoy following the success of their previous film, Thudarum.
MG Sreekumar reunites with Mohanlal
MG Sreekumar has sung numerous popular songs for Mohanlal throughout his career. His association with the actor has produced several memorable musical moments, and Sundara Ravanan adds another collaboration to their list.
The singer was also part of the musical success of Thudarum, lending his voice to tracks such as Kanmanipoove and Kondattam. The film, which brought together Mohanlal, Tharun Moorthy and Jakes Bejoy, was a major box-office success last year.
With Athimanoharam, the trio is working together again, while MG Sreekumar’s contribution adds further continuity to the musical connection between the projects.
BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics for Sundara Ravanan, while Jakes Bejoy has composed the track. The devotional touch of the song gives the first single a distinct identity as the makers begin introducing the film’s music to audiences.
Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine share screen space again
Written by Retheesh Ravi, Athimanoharam features Mohanlal as Lovelajan, a police officer. Meera Jasmine plays his wife in the film.
The project marks another collaboration between the two actors, who have previously shared screen space in films such as Rasathanthram, Innathe Chintha Vishayam and Ladies and Gentleman.
Meera Jasmine also made a brief appearance in Mohanlal’s 2025 film Hridayapoorvam, adding to their association on screen.
The upcoming film is described as a blend of a police procedural and family drama. Its storyline is expected to combine the investigation-oriented elements of a police narrative with the relationships and emotional aspects of family life.
Ensemble cast and technical team
Apart from Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine, the film features Binu Pappu, Manoj K Jayan, Bhama Arun, Jagadish, Lalu Alex and Mukesh, among others.
Binu Pappu, who played a key role in Thudarum, is also part of the cast of Athimanoharam.
The film is produced by Ashiq Usman under his banner, Ashiq Usman Productions. Tharun Moorthy is directing the project, with Retheesh Ravi handling the screenplay.
On the technical front, Shaji Kumar is the cinematographer, Shafeeque VB is the editor and Gokul Das is the production designer.
The production has been completed, and the film is currently gearing up for its theatrical release.
Film set for December 24 release
The makers have scheduled Athimanoharam for a theatrical release on December 24. With production wrapped up, attention is now turning towards its promotional campaign and music releases.
The arrival of Sundara Ravanan offers the first glimpse of the film’s musical direction. The reunion of MG Sreekumar and Mohanlal, along with Jakes Bejoy’s return as composer after Thudarum, is likely to draw interest from Malayalam film music enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal has several other projects in the pipeline, including Operation Ganga and Ram, directed by Jeethu Joseph. He is also expected to collaborate with Anoop Sathyan, Priyadarshan, Dileesh Pothan, Sathyan Anthikad and Jude Anthany Joseph. A project with actor-director Anoop Menon is also among the films expected from the superstar.
For now, Athimanoharam is preparing for its December release, with its first single highlighting the reunion of Mohanlal and MG Sreekumar.
