Mohanlal’s Performance in Thanmathra Leaves Vijay Sethupathi Awestruck

A resurfaced interview clip featuring Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi sheds light on his admiration for a poignant scene from the Malayalam classic Thanmathra, starring Mohanlal. Vijay recounted how deeply one particular moment impacted him emotionally, despite knowing it was a portrayal.

Describing the scene, Vijay said, “Lal Sir walks into an office, imagining it’s his home, and begins undressing for a bath. I can’t even sit through the film, especially that scene. I’m aware it’s acting and that I’m an actor too, but I still find it overwhelming.” The raw and genuine essence Mohanlal brought to the role of an Alzheimer’s patient, Vijay noted, was profoundly moving and hard to watch without tearing up.

Mohanlal’s dedication to his craft has often been celebrated by his peers. Speaking about his approach, the veteran actor once shared that he doesn’t rely on studying personalities or observing real-life behavior for roles. Instead, he brings authenticity through intuition. “Many asked if I studied Alzheimer’s patients for Thanmathra, but I never did. Some actors prepare technically, but that’s not my method,” Mohanlal revealed.

Directed by Blessy, Thanmathra remains a timeless masterpiece, showcasing unforgettable performances from Meera Vasudev, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Arjun Lal. The film achieved both critical acclaim and box-office success, solidifying its place in Malayalam cinema.

Vijay Sethupathi’s tribute underscores Mohanlal’s unmatched talent, inspiring actors and audiences alike.
