Veteran Bollywood icon Mumtaz, beloved for her elegance and on-screen charisma during the 1960s and 1970s, recently opened up about a potential return to films. In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, she discussed the lack of suitable roles that align with her current image and expectations.

“I’m not interested in portraying elderly women,” Mumtaz stated firmly. “I haven’t been offered anything that suits how I appear today. When a role does match my personality and looks, I’ll think about returning. But I’m not going to play someone’s mother—that’s not for me.”

Her comments struck a chord with fans online, who praised her fearless honesty and enduring confidence. Admirers shared comments like, “She still looks amazing!” and “We want Mumtaz back on screen!”

Mumtaz began acting at just 11, appearing in films such as Lajwanti and Sone Ki Chidiya (1958). Though initially pigeonholed into action-oriented roles, she broke free with hits like Ram Aur Shyam (1967), Mere Hamdam Mere Dost (1968), and the milestone Do Raaste (1969), establishing herself as a top actress.

Following a stellar run, she stepped away from films after Nagin (1976), briefly returning with Aandhiyan in 1990. Since then, Mumtaz has lived in London with her husband, businessman Mayur Madhvani.

While she waits for the perfect script, Mumtaz remains an icon who knows her worth—and won’t settle for less.
