Social media personality Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, has been summoned by the Anti-Narcotics Cell’s (ANC) Ghatkopar unit for questioning on Thursday at 10 am. According to Mumbai Police, Orry has been called as part of the ongoing investigation into a massive ₹252-crore mephedrone racket linked to rave parties allegedly attended by high-profile celebrities and political figures.
The summons follows fresh leads emerging from the March 2024 seizure of 126.14 kg of mephedrone—commonly known as ‘MD’—from a manufacturing facility located on a farm in Sangli district. The seizure, valued at approximately ₹252 crore, is one of the largest drug hauls reported in Maharashtra in recent years.
Racket traces lead to celebrity circuits
The breakthrough in the case came after the arrest of Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh, who was deported from Dubai last month. Shaikh allegedly told investigators that he organised lavish rave parties across India and abroad for celebrities.
Police sources revealed that Shaikh is a close aide of fugitive drug kingpin Salim Dola, a key member of the Dawood Ibrahim network. The Anti-Narcotics Cell stated that several of Shaikh’s events in Mumbai and Dubai were attended by well-known actors, social media influencers, music artists and even politicians.
Investigators believe that some of these parties served as hotspots for drug circulation, with mephedrone forming a key element of the supply chain. With each new statement and digital clue, the ANC is expanding its list of individuals who may have information relevant to the case.
High-profile names emerge during probe
According to details submitted by the police in a remand application before a Mumbai court, a number of prominent personalities were allegedly present at parties organised by Shaikh. Among the names mentioned were Alishah Parkar—son of Dawood Ibrahim’s deceased sister Haseena Parkar—actors Nora Fatehi, Shraddha Kapoor and her brother Siddharth Kapoor.
Also listed were filmmakers Abbas-Mustan, rapper Loka, Orry, and NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique. Authorities clarified that the appearance of a name in the remand note does not automatically imply criminal involvement but indicates that the individual may have attended events under investigation.
The ANC is now calling in persons named in the case to verify their presence, seek clarifications, and cross-check statements extracted from the accused.
A large-scale, organised operation
Investigators say the Sangli-based facility was part of a sophisticated operation capable of producing commercial quantities of mephedrone. The machinery, chemicals and distribution channels suggest a well-financed network with international linkages. The alleged involvement of key operatives connected to the Dawood syndicate has pushed agencies to treat the probe as a high-priority case.
The interrogation of Shaikh has also opened a trail into the logistics behind the rave parties—venues, guest lists, payments and vendor networks—offering investigators a deeper look into how drugs may have been supplied and distributed across events.
Celebrities on radar amid rising scrutiny
Mumbai Police maintain that the ongoing process is part of standard procedure in high-stakes narcotics cases where multiple individuals may have knowledge of the events or people involved. Celebrities have increasingly found themselves under scrutiny in drug-related investigations since 2020, following several high-profile cases centred around parties in Mumbai and Goa.
With the scale of the seized drugs and the presence of international operatives, officials say the probe will continue to widen in the coming weeks. Orry’s questioning on Thursday is expected to help investigators corroborate details about specific events and individuals linked to the case.
Conclusion
As the ₹252-crore mephedrone case expands, the Anti-Narcotics Cell is intensifying its efforts to map the entire network—from production facilities to party circuits. With new names surfacing and multiple celebrities being summoned, the investigation is poised to remain in the spotlight. The next steps will depend heavily on what emerges from witness statements, digital forensics and interrogations scheduled over the coming days.
