New Delhi: Following rising tensions between India and Pakistan—culminating in Operation Sindoor and a subsequent ceasefire—Pakistani actors are being digitally erased from Indian entertainment platforms and promotional materials.
Prominent faces like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Mawra Hocane have been removed or edited out of film posters and music covers across platforms such as Spotify, YouTube Music, and Sony Music India.
Posters of Kapoor & Sons no longer feature Fawad Khan, while Raees has been altered to display only Shah Rukh Khan, removing co-star Mahira. Similarly, Mawra Hocane has vanished from Sanam Teri Kasam visuals. This aligns with ongoing edits across platforms to remove Pakistani talent from view.
The song “Buddhu Sa Mann”, which includes Fawad alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, is currently unavailable on YouTube India, with an error stating “Video unavailable.” Its cover has also been modified to exclude Fawad.
Actor Harshvardhan Rane, who previously co-starred with Mawra, distanced himself from her and declined to participate in a sequel featuring her. He remarked, “Now they’ll say my PR did this! But it’s just common sense—some cleansing is underway.”
This move follows an advisory from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, directing all OTT and streaming platforms to remove content originating from Pakistan, citing national security concerns.
The directive applies to all Pakistani films, songs, web series, and other content across both free and subscription-based services.
