A simple Indian snack turned into a visual spectacle on the latest episode of MasterChef India, leaving judges and viewers in awe. Contestant Simran Vohra reimagined pakoras as an edible rangoli, transforming a familiar comfort food into a stunning piece of culinary art.
Judged by Vikas Khanna, Kunal Kapur and Ranveer Brar, the episode showcased one of the most visually striking dishes of the season.
When food meets tradition
Instead of serving pakoras in the usual way, Simran arranged them with chutneys in intricate, colourful patterns inspired by traditional rangolis — the decorative art form commonly seen during Indian festivals. Carefully placed elements, balanced colours and artistic symmetry made the plate resemble a floor artwork rather than a dish meant to be eaten.
The dish invited viewers to pause, admire and absorb the craftsmanship before even thinking of tasting it.
A personal connection to creativity
Simran later shared that the idea stemmed from her childhood love for making rangolis in school. She admitted it was a risk to present pakoras on a platform like MasterChef, but felt that flair and emotion mattered as much as technique.
That risk paid off.
Judges predict viral moment
Chef Ranveer Brar remarked that the dish reflected India’s rich artistic traditions and predicted it would go viral. Chef Vikas Khanna described it as a “pure work of art”, while Chef Kunal Kapur encouraged Simran to continue blending creativity with cooking.
Chef Ranveer was particularly impressed by the chutney presentation, saying he had never seen chutneys plated in such an imaginative way and predicted many home cooks would attempt to recreate the edible rangoli.
Ordinary food, extraordinary vision
The moment proved that even the most familiar dishes can feel magical when seen through an artist’s lens — making this episode about creativity, culture and emotion, not just cooking.
