Mumbai: Actor Pooja Hegde recently shared that becoming an actress was never part of her original career aspirations, revealing that she never considered films as a possible profession while growing up. The actor made the remarks during the trailer launch event of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, where she spoke candidly about her journey into the entertainment industry.
Pooja reflects on unexpected career path
During the event, Pooja revealed that she came from a family where academics received greater emphasis than careers in cinema.
She said acting had never crossed her mind as a realistic profession while growing up and admitted that she initially lacked confidence about entering films.
“Never had I thought in my dreams that I’d become an actress,” Pooja said while recalling her early years.
The actor explained that since nobody in her family had any connection with the film industry, cinema for her was viewed purely as entertainment rather than a career option.
She further shared that she used to watch films simply as an audience member and had never imagined working in the industry herself.
Rumi Jaffery recalls early prediction
Writer Rumi Jaffery, who was present during the trailer launch, shared an anecdote from Pooja’s school days.
According to him, he had known the actor since she was studying in Class 8 and had predicted that she would eventually enter films.
Jaffery recalled telling her parents that she was destined to become a heroine one day.
Reacting to the story, Pooja said she remembered his advice encouraging her to try acting, though she initially remained uncertain about pursuing it seriously.

Over the years, Pooja Hegde has established herself as a recognised face across both Bollywood and South Indian cinema.
She has balanced projects across multiple languages and worked with several leading actors and directors in the industry.
Her latest project marks her first collaboration with veteran filmmaker David Dhawan.
