The first official trailer of The Bluff, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, was unveiled on Wednesday, presenting audiences with her most intense and brutal avatar yet. Set in the Caribbean in the 1800s, the R-rated pirate thriller promises a dark tale of survival, power and protection.

A blood-soaked world of pirates

In The Bluff, Priyanka plays Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden, a former pirate whose violent past resurfaces when her family is threatened. The trailer opens with raw, close-combat action, immediately establishing the harsh and unforgiving world she inhabits.

Marked by scars and hardened by years of bloodshed, Ercell is shown as both a feared pirate queen and a fiercely protective mother. Her character’s emotional core lies in safeguarding her daughter, even if it means returning to a life she tried to leave behind.

Priyanka commands the screen

The trailer showcases Priyanka in several high-octane action sequences, from hand-to-hand combat to battles on the high seas. Her restrained yet commanding performance anchors the narrative, with controlled physicality adding depth to the violence.

Karl Urban appears as the antagonist, leading a ruthless hunt for Ercell. His character hires mercenaries to take her down, setting the stage for explosive confrontations. The film also features Temuera Morrison in a key supporting role.

Backed by big names

The Bluff is produced by the AGBO banner of the Russo Brothers in association with Amazon MGM Studios. The film is directed by Frank E Flowers and co-written by Flowers and Joe Ballarini.

Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Priyanka wrote: “This only ends with the sand soaked in blood.”
