MUMBAI: Rapido has clarified that a man arrested in connection with the shooting targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was not active as a bike-taxi rider on its platform since October 14. The company issued the statement after reports emerged that one of the accused had allegedly used his work as a bike-taxi rider to conduct reconnaissance around the actor’s residence before the attack.
The shooting incident took place in Mumbai’s Juhu area, where armed men allegedly opened fire at the actor’s car. Tiger Shroff escaped unharmed, while his driver and a bystander were reported injured.
According to an NDTV report published on October 19, one of the three accused, Hrithik Kurmi alias Roshan Fighter, had reportedly worked as a Rapido bike-taxi rider. Investigators suspect that he used the role to observe the actor’s movements and gather information about his residence before the shooting.
Rapido clarifies accused’s work status
In its statement, Rapido said it was deeply concerned about the incident involving Tiger Shroff and his team and was relieved that the actor was safe.
The company said the individual mentioned in media reports had not been active as a “captain” on its platform since October 14. Rapido also pointed out that people working in India’s gig economy may register with multiple platforms at the same time.
The company further stated that the individual had used Rapido’s services as a customer on the day of the incident, rather than working as a rider.
Rapido said it was in constant contact with the authorities and was extending cooperation to the ongoing investigation. The company reiterated its concern over the incident and its commitment to addressing the matter seriously.
Three accused arrested in connection with shooting
Mumbai Police have arrested three men in connection with the shooting: Rehan alias Sukka, 18, from Sonipat in Haryana; Hrithik Kurmi alias Roshan Fighter, 22, from Begusarai in Bihar; and Phool Singh, 18, from Rajasthan.
According to police, the three were arrested in Kota while allegedly attempting to board a train to Delhi. Investigators said the men planned to travel onwards to Nepal.
The accused are suspected of carrying out the attack as part of a planned operation. Police are investigating their alleged roles, the circumstances leading up to the shooting and whether other individuals were involved in organising it.
Alleged reconnaissance before the attack
Investigators reportedly suspect that the accused had monitored Tiger Shroff’s residence before the shooting. Hrithik allegedly used his work as a bike-taxi rider as a pretext to visit the area and observe the actor’s movements.
The shooting reportedly occurred when the actor’s car was near his residence in Juhu. Two men allegedly fired multiple rounds towards the vehicle before fleeing with their associate.
The actor escaped injury, while his driver and a bystander were reported to have sustained injuries. Police are continuing to examine video footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and the alleged planning behind the attack.
Investigation continues
The shooting has drawn attention to the alleged use of ordinary activities and employment to conduct surveillance before a crime. However, the investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the arrested men remain subject to the legal process.
Rapido’s statement clarifies the accused’s work status on its platform but does not determine the circumstances of the alleged attack. Police are continuing their investigation into the motive, the planning and any possible links to others involved in the case.
