Mumbai: Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has reportedly received a fresh death threat through an alleged audio clip demanding an extortion payment of Rs 20 crore. The threat, which police suspect may be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has prompted the Mumbai Crime Branch to launch an investigation and send the audio recording for forensic examination.
The latest development comes months after a firing incident outside Shetty’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area, raising fresh concerns over the filmmaker’s security ahead of the premiere of Khatron Ke Khiladi 15.
According to police officials, the alleged threat was received by members of Rohit Shetty’s staff, who immediately informed law enforcement authorities. A case has since been registered by the Juhu Police, while the Crime Branch is investigating the source and authenticity of the audio clip.
Rs 20 crore extortion demand
According to reports, the alleged audio message demands Rs 20 crore from the filmmaker and warns of severe consequences if the amount is not paid.
The message reportedly claims that the firing incident outside Rohit Shetty’s residence earlier this year was only a “trailer” and threatens a direct attack if the extortion demand is ignored.
A Mumbai Crime Branch officer confirmed that Shetty’s staff had received the threatening audio clip. Investigators suspect that the voice in the recording may belong to Shubham Lonkar, and the clip has been sent for forensic analysis to verify its authenticity and identify the speaker.
Police have not yet officially confirmed the sender of the audio clip, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Investigation underway
The Mumbai Crime Branch has begun examining all available evidence, including digital records linked to the threatening message.
Forensic experts will analyse the audio recording to determine whether it has been edited, identify the voice and trace its origin. Investigators are also looking into possible links between the latest threat and previous incidents involving the filmmaker.
Authorities have not disclosed whether additional security has been deployed for Rohit Shetty following the latest threat, but officials are treating the matter seriously due to the nature of the message and the earlier attack.
Previous firing outside Rohit Shetty’s residence
The latest threat comes nearly five months after shots were fired outside Rohit Shetty’s residence near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk in Juhu.
On February 1, 2026, unidentified assailants allegedly fired five rounds outside the filmmaker’s residence shortly after midnight. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had reportedly claimed responsibility for the firing.
Following an investigation, police arrested the alleged shooter, Deepak Sharma, from Agra while he was attempting to evade arrest.
Investigators are examining whether the fresh extortion threat has any connection with the earlier firing incident.

The latest season has been filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, and carries the theme Darr Ka Naya Daur. According to the makers, the show will feature some of the toughest stunts in the franchise’s history, including challenges performed atop skyscrapers, inside cages and alongside snakes and insects.
Sharing his experience after completing the shoot, Rohit Shetty described the season as “hectic, tiring and physically challenging,” while promising viewers a refreshed format with several surprises.
