Chennai: Composer Sai Abhyankkar has joined the crew of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film, tentatively titled SK27. The film is written and directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan, who earned recognition for his National Award-winning debut film Parking (2023).

The makers announced Sai Abhyankkar’s association with the project, marking his first collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan as a music composer. The film has generated interest with its combination of the popular Tamil actor and the director of Parking, which received national recognition for its screenplay and storytelling.

Produced by Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan under the Sathya Jyothi Films banner, SK27 is presented by TG Thyagarajan. The film went on floors in September, with the makers gradually revealing details about its cast and crew.

Sai Abhyankkar’s first collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan

Sai Abhyankkar’s addition brings a new musical collaboration to Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming project. Although this will be their first film together with Sai serving as composer, the musician has previously been associated with a Sivakarthikeyan film through his singing.

He lent his voice to Salambala from the soundtrack of Madharaasi, which featured music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. His involvement in SK27 will now see him take on the responsibility of composing the film’s music.

Sai Abhyankkar has been building his presence in Tamil cinema with projects featuring established actors and filmmakers. His upcoming slate includes Dhanush’s Om, Bakkiyaraj Kannan’s Benz, Karthi’s Marshal and Raaka, the film directed by Atlee and starring Allu Arjun.

His latest release as a composer, according to the supplied report, was Baththa, starring Vijay Sethupathi.

His association with SK27 adds Sivakarthikeyan’s film to a growing list of projects that could further expand his work across the Tamil film industry.

Kayadu Lohar to star opposite Sivakarthikeyan

Actor Kayadu Lohar will play the female lead opposite Sivakarthikeyan in SK27. The project marks her first collaboration with the actor.

Kayadu has several other projects in the pipeline, including Manjanathi, directed by Mari Selvaraj, and Suriya 48, directed by TJ Gnanavel, in which she is set to star alongside Suriya.

Her inclusion in SK27 brings together two performers working on new collaborations as the film moves through its production process.

The makers have also announced key members of the technical team. Om Prakash is the cinematographer, R Kalaivanan is handling editing, and A Rajesh is the art director.

The crew brings together experienced technicians for the film, which is being mounted by Sathya Jyothi Films.

Ramkumar Balakrishnan returns after National Award-winning Parking

SK27 marks Ramkumar Balakrishnan’s second directorial venture after Parking, his 2023 Tamil thriller starring Harish Kalyan, M S Bhaskar and Indhuja Ravichandran.

Parking received significant recognition at the National Film Awards. Ramkumar won the award for Best Screenplay, while the film was honoured as Best Tamil Feature Film. M S Bhaskar also received the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance.

The film’s recognition established Ramkumar as a director to watch, raising expectations around his next project.

With SK27, he will be working with Sivakarthikeyan, who has continued to expand his filmography across different genres. The collaboration brings the director’s storytelling approach together with an established leading actor and a production house with a long history in Tamil cinema.

Details about the film’s storyline and release date have not been disclosed in the supplied information. The makers are expected to share further updates as production progresses.

Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming projects

Apart from SK27, Sivakarthikeyan has Seyon in his upcoming lineup. The film is directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, known for Thaai Kizhavi.

The actor’s continued involvement in multiple projects reflects his busy schedule in Tamil cinema, while SK27 adds another director and composer to his list of collaborations.

For Sai Abhyankkar, the film offers an opportunity to work with Sivakarthikeyan in a new capacity after contributing as a singer to Madharaasi. For Ramkumar, it represents the next step after the critical recognition of Parking.

With its lead cast, experienced technical crew and newly announced composer, SK27 is shaping up as a notable addition to Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film slate.
