Mumbai: Salman Khan’s much-anticipated film Maatrubhumi is unlikely to meet its previously scheduled April 17 release date. According to industry sources, the film is now eyeing a theatrical release in August, possibly around the Independence Day weekend.

The film, which was earlier titled Battle of Galwan, is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. The title change and subsequent adjustments are believed to have contributed to the delay.

Title change leads to release shift

The makers recently rebranded the film from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi. The change was officially announced on March 14, when Salman Khan shared a new poster on social media along with the tagline, “May War Rest In Peace.”

With the title change came a series of modifications, which sources say have impacted the release timeline. As a result, the April 17 slot—strategically planned around Eid—will likely be skipped.

However, the producers are yet to make an official announcement regarding the new release date.

Independence Day weekend targeted

Trade insiders suggest that the film is now being positioned for an August release, aligning with the Independence Day weekend—a period often associated with patriotic and high-impact releases.

Given the film’s subject, which revolves around a significant military confrontation, the new window could work in its favour in terms of audience sentiment and box office performance.

Salman Khan as Colonel Santosh Babu

In Maatrubhumi, Salman Khan essays the role of Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment. He led Indian troops during the Galwan Valley confrontation while enforcing a disengagement agreement at the border.

The story is expected to focus on leadership, sacrifice and the realities of modern-day conflict, offering a tribute to the soldiers involved.

Cast and crew details

The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films.

Alongside Salman Khan, the film features Chitrangda Singh in a key role. Actors Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia are also part of the ensemble cast.

The music for the film has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

Teaser and previous work

The teaser of Maatrubhumi was unveiled on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan’s 60th birthday, generating significant buzz among fans.

Salman was last seen in Sikandar, directed by A. R. Murugadoss and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna.

Awaiting official confirmation

While reports strongly indicate an August release, the makers have not yet issued an official statement confirming the new date. Fans will have to wait for a formal announcement to know when the film will finally hit theatres.

Conclusion

The delay of Maatrubhumi may come as a disappointment for fans who were expecting an Eid release. However, an Independence Day weekend launch could provide a more fitting backdrop for a film rooted in patriotism and real-life events.
