As comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina finds himself at the center of the ongoing ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy, an old video of his 2024 show in Ahmedabad has resurfaced and quickly gone viral. While Raina has remained silent regarding the current situation, this clip has reignited discussions about his perspective on comedy and his approach to performing.

In the resurfaced footage, Raina is seen urging the audience to put their phones away before delivering a heartfelt reflection about his craft. “Phone hata do, just want to talk dil se (from the heart),” he said, before clarifying, “Whatever I spoke for the last one hour, I am not this kind of person.” When an audience member shouted, “Cover-up, cover-up,” Raina responded by saying, “It’s not a cover-up, I am trying to tell you something.”

Raina went on to express, “I could have left and been like…,” implying that he could have easily finished his performance without elaborating further. He continued, “But I would like to break the facade for you… we all write jokes to make you laugh, but these jokes have no meaning. This is a game, and these are cheat codes.” He later referred to one of his jokes about his grandfather, “Nana zinda hai mera (My grandfather is alive),” explaining how they craft jokes knowing they will get a reaction from the audience.

This video has gained renewed attention in light of the recent controversy surrounding Raina and his show, “India’s Got Latent.” The show faced backlash after a controversial remark made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, resulting in multiple FIRs against Samay and Ranveer. In response to the mounting pressure, Samay has taken down all episodes of “India’s Got Latent.”

Currently, Samay is on his tour, “Samay Raina Unfiltered,” performing across Canada and the United States. His recent show in Edmonton, Canada, was part of this ongoing tour. Meanwhile, he is also facing legal scrutiny, with a summons from the cyber police. Samay’s request to provide his statement via videoconferencing was reportedly denied.

The controversy surrounding “India’s Got Latent” grew after a formal complaint was filed against Samay, Ranveer, Apoorva Mukhija, and the show’s organizers. The complaint alleges that the show used abusive language and made obscene remarks about women for financial and popularity gains.
