Mumbai: Sara Ali Khan recently added a nostalgic touch to the promotions of her upcoming film Udta Teer by recreating an iconic look associated with her mother, veteran actor Amrita Singh, from the 1988 film Waaris.
Sara travelled to Punjab with her co-star Ayushmann Khurrana as part of the promotional activities for the film. During the visit, the actor embraced the local culture and paid a special tribute to her mother through her choice of traditional attire.
Sara recreates Amrita Singh’s iconic look
For the Punjab promotions, Sara opted for a blush-pink traditional Punjabi suit that immediately reminded fans of a similar appearance worn by Amrita Singh in Waaris.
Amrita had sported a pink Punjabi suit while shooting for one of the songs in the 1988 film. Sara’s latest appearance appeared to draw directly from that memorable fashion moment, creating a visual connection between mother and daughter across generations.
Sara also shared a series of photographs featuring herself and Amrita, highlighting the resemblance between the two looks.
Alongside the pictures, she used lyrics from the song as her caption, writing, “Mommy did you ever think aapke pyaar ki Umar ek din itni hogi.”
The nostalgic post quickly added an emotional dimension to the film’s promotional campaign, with Sara celebrating both her mother’s cinematic legacy and her own upcoming release.
Sara and Ayushmann explore Punjab
The promotional visit was not limited to traditional attire. Sara and Ayushmann also participated in several activities reflecting the culture and lifestyle of Punjab.
Sara was seen enjoying a glass of lassi and riding a tractor with Ayushmann. She also interacted with members of the audience in Punjabi while speaking about Udta Teer and urging viewers to experience the film in theatres.
The promotional moments gave the actors an opportunity to connect with audiences in a more informal setting while highlighting Punjab as an important part of the film’s promotional journey.
Ayushmann also embraced the theme of the campaign with his outfit. The actor wore a denim look with a white shirt carrying the words “Udta Teer”.
In one of the promotional videos, Ayushmann was seen driving a tractor while Sara sat beside him. The video ended with the two actors posing together, with Sara resting her head on Ayushmann’s shoulder.
Ayushmann plays a Pakistani spy
Udta Teer features Ayushmann Khurrana in the role of Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani spy who suffers from memory loss.
The film has an ensemble supporting cast, including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.
The unusual premise, centred on a spy dealing with memory loss, has generated interest around the film ahead of its theatrical release.
However, the makers have not yet revealed all details of the storyline, keeping much of the plot under wraps as the promotional campaign continues.
Release date postponed to October 23
Udta Teer has also received a revised theatrical release date.
The film was earlier scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 9. It will now release on October 23.
The change is aimed at giving the film a better theatrical window after the ongoing runs of films including Drishyam: The Conclusion and The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest.
The revised date will allow Udta Teer to enter theatres after some of the major releases have completed their initial theatrical runs, potentially giving it greater access to screens and audiences.
A special mother-daughter connection
For Sara, the Punjab promotional appearance has become particularly memorable because of its connection with Amrita Singh.
While Sara has established her own identity in the Hindi film industry, references to her parents often generate considerable interest among audiences. Recreating Amrita’s Waaris look allows Sara to celebrate that legacy while giving the promotional campaign a distinctly personal touch.
The combination of traditional Punjabi fashion, references to a classic film and Sara’s photographs with her mother made the appearance stand out from a conventional promotional outing.
With Udta Teer now set for release on October 23, Sara and Ayushmann are expected to continue their promotional activities in the run-up to the film’s theatrical debut.
