Shah Rukh Khan to Shed Pounds for Action Film ‘King’

Shahrukh Khan

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan disclosed on Sunday that he will need to undergo a significant physical transformation to prepare for his role in the upcoming action film King. During a Q&A session at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where he was honoured with the Pardo alla Carriera award, Shah Rukh shared insights into his preparation for the film, directed by Sujoy Ghosh.

Shah Rukh, who is 58 years old, acknowledged the physical demands of action roles, stating, “The next film that I’m doing, King, I have to start working on it. I need to lose some weight and stretch a little so my groin doesn’t get caught when I’m doing action. It’s painful and hurtful. I have a bag full of icing machines. So you keep doing it.”

He humorously described his post-action film appearances, saying, “It’s the worst thing to see me on sets after action. I look really cool in the film. After that I’m tired, somebody is pressing my back, I can’t walk, and then suddenly you see people, and you give flying kisses.”

King marks a significant project for Shah Rukh Khan, who has been contemplating this role for several years. He explained, “Now, there’s a certain kind of film I want to do, where, maybe it is more age-centric and I want to try something. For 6-7 years I have been thinking about it. I mentioned it to Sujoy one day and he said, ‘Sir, I have a subject.’”

The film is also notable for being the big-screen debut of Shah Rukh’s daughter, Suhana Khan. The film, anticipated to hit theatres in November this year, also features Abhishek Bachchan in a villainous role. Abhay Verma, known for his performance in Munjya, has also been cast in a significant part.

The announcement has generated considerable excitement among fans and industry insiders. The collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Sujoy Ghosh has long been rumored, and King is expected to be a major highlight of the coming year. With Suhana Khan making her debut and a strong cast in place, the film is highly anticipated.

As Shah Rukh Khan gears up for King, his commitment to the role and the physical demands of action cinema reflect his dedication to delivering a compelling performance. With the film’s release slated for November and a talented cast, including his daughter Suhana, King promises to be a major cinematic event.
