Mumbai: Shehnaaz Gill is currently busy promoting her latest Punjabi film Singh Vs Kaur 2, which released in theatres on September 11. However, the actor-producer is already looking ahead and has revealed that direction is among her future ambitions.

In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shehnaaz opened up about the different aspects of the entertainment industry she has explored, including Hindi films, Punjabi cinema, music and production. She also spoke about her desire to eventually step behind the camera and direct a film.

‘The symptoms of a director are there’

Shehnaaz said she believes she already possesses qualities that could help her transition into direction. She also indicated that she would like to gain experience by assisting before taking charge of her own project.

“I’ll direct. Right now, I feel that for direction, I have that leadership quality within me. I also know how to control people. The symptoms of a director are there. But I feel I can assist well. So I will assist,” she said.

Her comments suggest that Shehnaaz is considering a gradual move into filmmaking, with assisting potentially serving as a way to understand the practical aspects of directing before she takes on a project independently.

Having already ventured beyond acting into production and music, the actor-producer appears interested in expanding her creative involvement in the filmmaking process.

Shehnaaz wants to make an intense romance

When asked what kind of film she would like to direct, Shehnaaz gave a brief but clear answer. Her preferred genre is romance, with an emphasis on intensity.

“Romance. Intense,” she said when discussing the kind of film she would like to make.

The genre preference points towards a relationship-driven story with strong emotional elements. While Shehnaaz has not revealed a specific story, cast or timeline for her directorial debut, her comments establish intense romance as the type of cinema she would like to explore.

Focus on realistic performances

During the conversation, Shehnaaz also spoke about her approach to acting and her preference for performances that feel natural and grounded.

She has worked across Hindi and Punjabi entertainment, while also taking on responsibilities as a producer and pursuing music-related projects. Her comments about wanting “very real” acting indicate an interest in naturalistic performances rather than heavily stylised portrayals.

If she eventually moves into direction, this preference could influence the kind of performances and storytelling she chooses to bring to the screen. However, Shehnaaz is yet to announce a specific directorial project.
