Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha has shared an easy and affordable haircare hack that she learned from her mother-in-law, winning praise from fans for highlighting a simple home remedy for natural curls.

In a recent YouTube vlog, Sonakshi introduced her mother-in-law, who demonstrated how to prepare homemade flaxseed gel using just two ingredients—flaxseeds and water.

A natural alternative to heat styling

According to the video, the basic recipe involves adding one tablespoon of flaxseeds to two cups of water. The mixture is boiled and then simmered for about 20 minutes until it thickens into a gel-like consistency.

Sonakshi’s mother-in-law explained that the amount of flaxseeds can be adjusted depending on hair length and thickness.

Once the mixture starts forming foam and resembles a slightly watery gel, it should be strained immediately and allowed to cool before use.

How Sonakshi creates overnight curls

To achieve natural-looking curls, Sonakshi applies the cooled flaxseed gel evenly to her hair and creates several small braids.

The braids are left overnight and opened the next morning, resulting in soft, textured curls without the use of heat styling tools.

Sharing the technique, the actor credited her mother-in-law for teaching her the simple beauty trick.

More than just a beauty tip

Experts say such exchanges can also strengthen family relationships. Dr Rimpa Sarkar, a psychologist at Sentier Wellness, noted that sharing beauty tips, recipes and self-care practices across generations often helps build trust and emotional connection within families.

She explained that publicly appreciating in-laws can also encourage more positive perceptions of extended family relationships, provided people remember that healthy bonds are built through ongoing communication and mutual respect.

The video has resonated with many social media users who appreciated both the natural haircare remedy and the warm family interaction behind it.
