Glasgow: A new behind-the-scenes featurette from Spider-Man: Brand New Day has offered fans a closer look at how the upcoming superhero film was shot using practical stunt techniques on real city streets. The video features Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton discussing the large-scale action sequences filmed across Glasgow, Scotland, which doubles as New York City in the movie.

The fourth solo Spider-Man film starring Holland is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31, 2026. The newly released footage highlights the production’s emphasis on practical effects, with Holland performing scenes in full costume while swinging through streets, jumping across vehicles and filming amidst explosions and crowd-filled locations.

Tom Holland praises practical stunt work

In the behind-the-scenes clip, Holland described the stunt work in the film as some of the best he has experienced while playing Spider-Man. The actor explained how the production team focused heavily on real-world filming techniques instead of relying entirely on computer-generated imagery.

The footage shows Holland strapped into harness systems while filming action scenes between buildings and over moving cars. Several sequences were shot directly on outdoor sets constructed to resemble New York streets. According to Holland, the use of practical filmmaking methods would help audiences feel more connected to Spider-Man’s world.

He said the practical approach “is going to allow audiences to be a part of this experience,” highlighting the immersive nature of the upcoming Marvel film.

Although the story is set in New York City, most of the outdoor scenes were filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. The city has become a popular filming destination for major Hollywood productions because of its architecture and adaptable urban streets.

Glasgow crowds cheer during filming

Director Destin Daniel Cretton also spoke about the public response during filming. He revealed that thousands of fans gathered across Glasgow streets to watch the production take place.

According to Cretton, the energy from fans added excitement and motivation for the cast and crew while shooting large-scale sequences outdoors.

“It was a really lovely reminder to all of us how much this movie means to a lot of people,” the director shared in the featurette.

The public filming drew significant attention earlier this year, with several videos and images from the set going viral online. Fans were able to witness Spider-Man stunt sequences, damaged vehicles and recreated New York locations throughout parts of the city.

Cretton is best known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and co-creating the upcoming Marvel series Wonder Man.

New poster hints at Peter Parker’s lonely journey

Alongside the BTS video, the makers also released a new poster for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The artwork focuses on Spider-Man’s suit and iconic logo while showing only half of Holland’s face.

The poster references the emotional ending of the previous Spider-Man film, where the world forgot Peter Parker’s identity after the multiverse crisis. However, the tagline suggests that Peter still remembers everyone he sacrificed his personal life for.

The upcoming story reportedly takes place four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker is now operating as a full-time superhero while living separately from his closest friends.

Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon, and MJ, portrayed by Zendaya, are shown moving ahead with college life while Peter continues protecting New York alone.

Star-studded cast joins new Marvel adventure

The film also introduces several major characters into Spider-Man’s next chapter. Jon Bernthal joins the film as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, while Michael Mando returns as the villain Scorpion.

As Peter Parker faces evolving powers and increasing threats, the storyline hints at a darker and more emotionally intense journey for the superhero.

The screenplay has been written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers and comic book legend Stan Lee. The ensemble cast also includes Mark Ruffalo, Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman.

With Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures continuing to expand Spider-Man’s cinematic story, Brand New Day is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated superhero releases of 2026.

The combination of practical stunt work, emotional storytelling and returning fan-favourite characters is expected to attract massive global attention when the film arrives in theatres next year.
