Telugu actor Sreeleela has spoken out strongly against the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to create fake and harmful videos of actors and content creators. Her statement comes amid rising concerns in the entertainment industry over AI-generated content going viral on social media, causing distress and reputational damage.

The issue resurfaced recently after a private video allegedly linked to popular YouTuber and gamer Payal Gaming circulated online, with many netizens claiming it was created using AI tools. Similar fake videos have previously targeted several Indian actors, including Sreeleela herself.

‘Difference between using and abusing technology’

In a detailed social media post, Sreeleela urged users to act responsibly and not encourage the spread of such content. She said advancements in technology are meant to simplify life, not complicate it.

“I put my hands together and request every social media user not to support AI-generated nonsense. There is a difference between using and abusing technology,” she wrote. Emphasising dignity and respect, the actor reminded users that women in the industry are daughters, sisters, friends, and colleagues, regardless of their profession.

She added that artists enter the industry to spread joy and should be able to work with confidence in a safe and protected environment.

‘Deeply disturbing and devastating’

Sreeleela admitted that her busy schedule had kept her unaware of many online developments until well-wishers alerted her. While she usually ignores online noise, she said the current trend was deeply disturbing.

“I see my fellow colleagues going through the same and am reaching out on behalf of everyone,” she wrote, appealing to audiences to stand by artists with grace and dignity. She also indicated that authorities would be taking the matter forward.

In the comments section, the actor acknowledged her discomfort in speaking publicly about the issue but said she hoped it would serve a larger purpose.

Growing concern across the industry

The rise of AI-generated fake videos has become a serious concern for actors, influencers, and content creators across India, raising questions about digital safety, consent, and accountability on social media platforms. Industry voices have increasingly called for stronger regulation and swift action against those misusing emerging technologies.

Sreeleela’s statement has been widely welcomed as an important step in bringing attention to the emotional and professional impact of such digital abuse.
