Mumbai: India’s 80th Independence Day saw celebrities from across the country’s film industries come together on social media to celebrate the nation’s journey since 1947.
Actors from Bollywood, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada cinema shared patriotic messages, personal reflections and wishes for India, with several focusing on freedom, unity, diversity and the responsibility of shaping the country’s future.
Stars salute India’s journey
Ram Charan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn were among the prominent actors who shared Independence Day messages.
Ram Charan expressed pride in being Indian and wished citizens on the occasion. Akshay Kumar’s message centred on the Tricolour and hope for a better tomorrow, while Ajay Devgn highlighted the freedom to dream, create and build.
The celebrations also brought together stars including Amitabh Bachchan, R Madhavan, Yash, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Kamal Haasan and Priyanka Chopra.
Anupam Kher reflects on freedom
Anupam Kher offered a more personal reflection, drawing a connection between his own life and India’s post-Independence journey.
Born in 1955, eight years after Independence, Kher said he and the country had effectively grown up together. He also recalled hearing stories of the freedom movement from his family while growing up.
The actor reflected on how younger Indians experience freedom differently because they were born in an independent country and have never experienced colonial rule.
