The countdown for Stranger Things fans is nearing its end as Season 5 Part 1 — the beginning of the final chapter — arrives in less than 20 hours. The first instalment of the much-awaited season premieres on Thursday with four extended episodes, marking the show’s return after a long hiatus.
Release details and episode lineup
Netflix will release Season 5 Part 1 globally according to regional schedules, with India expected to receive the episodes on Thursday morning. The opening block consists of four long chapters, each carrying major narrative setups for the concluding arc.
The creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have hinted that this instalment features the show’s “wildest cold open yet,” setting the tone for what they describe as the biggest VFX load the series has attempted.
Duffers ask fans to rewatch key episodes
Ahead of the release, the Duffer Brothers made a special request to the audience: revisit four specific episodes that contain crucial building blocks for Season 5. According to them, these chapters offer clearer clues to how the final storyline connects back to the show’s origins.
The four recommended episodes are:
- Season 2, Episode 4: “Will the Wise” (46 minutes)
- Season 2, Episode 6: “The Spy” (51 minutes)
- Season 4, Episode 7: “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab” (1 hour 38 minutes)
- Season 4, Episode 9: “The Piggyback” (2 hours 30 minutes)
The Duffers said these episodes collectively carry the emotional and mythological groundwork that Season 5 aims to resolve. The upcoming season also draws heavily from the atmosphere of Season 1, they added.
Main cast returns for the final chapter
The ensemble cast reunites much earlier this season — a change from Season 4, where characters were split across multiple storylines. Returning to lead the final journey are Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder and David Harbour.
Season 5’s conclusion schedule
Part 2 of Season 5 will release on December 26, 2025, featuring three episodes. The saga will conclude on January 1, 2026 (India time) with a movie-length finale. Netflix has also confirmed that the concluding episode will be screened in select theatres across the United States and Canada.
The two-part rollout marks the end of one of Netflix’s biggest global franchises, with the platform preparing for what is expected to be a record-breaking viewership surge as the final season unfolds.
